I had several fraudulent charges show up on my USAA credit card around 10 years ago. This article provides a good overview of the issues: I'm sure it just took them a bit to piece together all of the facts. If you lose your card or have it stolen, you're also generally covered so long as you report it in a timely manner. Pretty much every credit card provides coverage for fraudulent use by someone that doesn't have your card. The initial reluctance to cover the fraud is likely due to the fact that the unauthorized user had possession of your card. Has anyone encountered something similar ? with Capital One or another bank? please share data points. I have no idea what the typical process is in these cases, but I wasn't going to absorb those charges, even though they totalled under $100. At that point, she agreed it was fraud and agreed to credit them. (At this point, I was concerned they thought I was lying!).she hesitated again, so I said "do I need to file a police affidavit swearing to my whereabouts for the past several days?.

I have never once had a fraud problem with them. I mentioned I have done business with Cap One (through the bank they acquired) for over 30 years. These charges were made in Oklahoma last week. I have not been outside of Florida for over 30+ days. She appeared to hesitate -so I repeated for emphasis.I am in Florida. She asked the same questions about whether I have the card, could anyone else have access, etc. I gave her the same details I had just given the other representative about an hour before. I called them back, asking how, why, what.I was transferred to a fraud specialist. They repeated their card policy that card holders are not responsible for any fraudulent charges.Ībout an hour later, I get an emailed letter from Cap One - they had done an investigation, determined the charges were not fraudulent and therefore were going to hold me responsible for them. They assured me they would be credited, the account closed and a new card issued. I have no idea if I dropped or left it somewhere or someone lifted it from my purse, etc. I looked for my card and discovered it was missing. I haven't been out of this state since the Christmas holidays. They appeared to have been made by someone travelling through Oklahoma - gasoline and meals.not the typical online casino, high end shoes, electronics charges that turn out to be fraud. Yesterday I found some fraudulent charges on my Capital One Venture card. Cards were cancelled, charges credited, new cards issued.wash, rinse, repeat.

Like most of us, over the years, I have discovered fraudulent charges on my credit cards or been contacted by the issuers regarding suspicious charges. Sharing a consumer data point on an interesting fraud case issue I just encountered with Capital One, on my Venture credit card.
